Cincinnati, Ohio -- -- Several children were injured Monday after a dog broke out of its owner's back yard in East Price Hill and attacked.

Investigators said the dog -- a chow mix -- bit several children. While the wounds were not severe, parents said the situation had them very worried.

Police said the dog had been running loose for several hours after breaking free of its leash. The dog was eventually captured and taken away by the SPCA.

Robert Markee said his 11-year-old daughter was attacked.

"She's all bruised on her face. It's black and blue -- no puncture wounds though. She's OK. I'm not OK," Markee said.

Markee said he grabbed a baseball bat and ran out with his other daughter when the dog attacked.

"He turned around and lunged at me and tried to bite my leg," said Markee's daughter, Amanda Patterson. "He hit my jeans -- it didn't go through."

Another neighbor said the dog chased her son on his bike, biting the tire and nipping at his hand.

"My concern is the kids. They play outside and couldn't (today.) It's been chasing them all day and they couldn't even play," Jennifer Chelflant said.

Officers said the owner was cited for having a dangerous dog, and voluntarily brought it out to be taken away by the SPCA.

"She was cooperative. She was upset... the dog actually got out and bit someone," Sgt. Frank Beavers said.

The owner did not talk to WLWT.

Police said the dog's owner will have to attend an administrative court hearing to determine if the dog is a danger before finding out if she can get it back.
