SCOTT COUNTY, Miss. -- A five-year-old boy was recovering Saturday after being attacked by a dog, possibly a pit bull.

The Scott County Sheriff's Department said it happened Friday night at about 7:45 in a trailer park.

Neighbors said the child was playing with a ball when it rolled over to where the dog was chained up. The boy went to get his ball and that's when he was bitten on the arm.

The five year old was taken to Scott Regional Hospital where he was treated and released.

The sheriff's department is investigating this case.

"(We're going) to make sure the owner of the dog had, number one, the dog chained up, number two, we'll make sure that the dog is not at large, and also we have to check to make sure the dog has no diseases," said Scott County Sheriff Mike Lee.

Witnesses said this isn't the first time this dog has bitten someone. However, the Scott County Sheriff's Department said this is the first bite from the animal that's been reported to them.

As for the owner of that dog, Lee said he could face multiple charges..
