HENDERSON, Texas — A 2-year-old boy is dead after his grandfather's pit bull dog fatally mauled him at the man's rural East Texas home.

Rusk County Sheriff Danny Pirtle says Kaden Muckleroy was died at East Texas Medical Center in Henderson after Wednesday morning's attack.

Pirtle says the boy's grandfather, Kelvin Muckleroy, had the dog chained to a tree in his yard when the attack happened. The sheriff tells the Tyler Morning Telegram that Muckleroy has turned the dog over to deputies, along with about 29 others he kept in kennels.

No charges have been filed, but Pirtle says the investigation continues.

Henderson is 32 miles south of Tyler and 125 miles southeast of Dallas.
