OMAHA, Neb. -- A 12-year-old boy was attacked by a dog Sunday night, according to the Nebraska Humane Society.

Officers were called to 30th and Seward streets around 9 p.m. after a dog got loose and attacked a boy, Mark Langan with the Humane Society said.

According to Langan, the dog’s owner, Oscar Gutierrez, pulled the dog off of the boy. The boy was taken to Creighton University Medical Center for treatment. Details of the boy’s condition have not been released.

Humane Society officials believe the dog is a Rottweiler mix.

Authorities said Gutierrez was cited on misdemeanor charges of improper restraint of an animal and harboring a dangerous animal.

The dog is being held pending court proceedings.
