Pit
Bull Attacks Second Child
Eight-year-old
Scott Carney unwrapped his bandages to show how the dog mauled
his arm and leg. It took 29 stitches to close the wounds. He was playing at a friend's down the street from home, when 2-year-old Pit Bull “Butter” broke free from his rope and attacked the child from behind. "I heard a huge snap, then I turned around. He was coming. I ran as fast as I could," he said. As Scott screamed for help, he remembered lessons he learned in karate. "I blocked my neck and face,” he said. Regina Carney never knew how much those karate lessons would pay off. "If the dog got his neck, he might not be here today,” she said. Though Scott was given a rabies shot as a precaution, there is no reason for concern as the dog's shots were up-to-date. This was the second time the same pit bull attacked a child. Another boy was bitten after he fell off his bike and was attacked by the dog. The dog's owner won’t face charges because he surrendered the dog to the police. "The dog has been turned over. She will be euthanized," said Officer Jim Leary. Greece police say this is the third pit bull attack in recent months. Animal Control Officer Brian Horndorf offers this advice if confronted by a dangerous dog: Try not to panic. If you can, stand still. Don't do anything that would startle the dog. Scream for help and if you have something to hit the dog with, aim for the nose or eyes to temporarily disable the dog. |
