Dog attack in PA

PHILADELPHIA (CBC 3) -- A Philadelphia toddler was taken to the hospital after being attacked by a dog Monday evening.

The incident happened on Rosemar Street in the city's Olney neighborhood.

According to a family member, the two-year-old victim was walking down the street with her grandmother, who was holding a younger child in her arms. The grandmother and the two children intentionally crossed the street to avoid the German Shepherd.

However, the dog was able to break free from its chain and attacked the two-year-old girl. She suffered multiple bite wounds along her head and upper body.

The child's grandmother was able to fight off the dog and neighbors helped rescue the young girl

She was taken by ambulance to an area hospital. The girl's great-grandmother told Eyewitness News that she believes the little girl will require stitches to her ear.

The dog was eventually taken away by SPCA officials to be evaluated.

The incident remains under investigation.
