Boy recovering after dog bites his face

A Doberman pinscher that bit a 6-year-old Pontiac boy's face Wednesday is now under quarantine for rabies, police said Sunday.

The dog's owner came to the police station on Saturday to help with the investigation, police Sgt. Kevin Davis said. The dog wasn't properly registered, so the owner was issued a citation. A city animal control officer then went to the home to pick the dog up.

The boy and his friend had been playing at a park at Ivy and Montcalm when they slipped inside a fenced-in backyard to pet the dog, Harris said. One child got too close to the chained-up dog, and it bit him.

The boy then biked home and police were called to Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital about 10:40 p.m.

The boy had more than 20 stitches on his face, including the area near his right eye and the bridge of his nose, Harris said. The man has not been charged.
