(CBS 11 News) FORT WORTH There is a CBS 11 News update on the 8-year-old Fort Worth boy who was mauled by his family's pit bulls Wednesday night. The little boy is in critical condition and his mother says he has undergone two surgeries.

Shalonda Johnson was in tears as she talked to CBS 11 News. Her son Marquis Prince told his sister he was going out to feed the pit bulls, who were both chained in the backyard. Minutes later the 6-year-old sister went outside and saw the two dogs mauling her brothers' throat.

Johnson told CBS 11 News she was awakened by the girls screams for help. "Marquis would've died if it hadn't been for his sister," says Johnson. "She saved his life."

The mother says her daughter was screaming, "Mommy, those dogs are eating Marquis, and he's dead."

When Johnson ran outside she found Marquis covered in blood and unconscious; she administered CPR until paramedics arrived.

The dogs were taken by animal control officers. The owner told police current on their vaccinations.
