Missouri ---- News 4 has an update on a seven-year-old girl who was attacked by a neighbor's dog.
The attack happened on Friday in Cuba, Missouri and on Monday, the dog’s owner found the animal shot to death.
The girl who was attacked, Lexi Middleton, remains in a St. Louis hospital.
Lexi’s mother says the girl’s teeth are broken out, her cheek bone is shattered and she has puncture wounds in her neck.
Police say they don't know who killed the dog that allegedly attacked Lexi. A press release from the Crawford County sheriff’s office says that the dog was quarantined and that the animal was found shot to death, but it doesn't say who pulled the trigger.
Information from the sheriff’s office contradicts some of the information provided by Lexi's mom. She says Lexi was inside a neighbor’s house when the attack happened. The sheriff’s office says she was outside and went into an area where the dog was chained.
There are no criminal charges in this case at this time.
Lexi's family doesn't have any insurance and her mother says Lexi could be facing permanent disfigurement because of this attack.
A fund has been set up to help the family with the Lexi’s medical expenses. Anyone interested in donating to the fund can visit the Southern Commercial Bank at 7201 South Broadway or call the bank at 314-481-6800.
