PENNSVILLE TWP. Christopher J. Kiger, 38, of Pennsville, was served with two township ordinance violations on Thursday, Aug. 23, after his dog allegedly became loose and attacked a 3-year-old boy on Tuesday, Aug. 14, according to police.

On the Aug. 14, police were called to a residence on South Broadway for the initial report of the dog attack. Medics treated the child at the scene, then transported him to The Salem Memorial Hospital of Salem County for further treatment, according to police.

The child suffered three lacerations to his head and required 26 stitches, police said. The dog was located in the area of the attack and secured at the Pennsville Dog Pound by the township's animal control officer, according to police.

At the time of the attack, the child was in his own yard playing, police said. Further police investigation revealed that Kiger was the dog's owner. The dog had been chained up in the yard, but apparently broke loose, according to police.

Kiger was issued two ordinance violations one for control and presence of his dog and the other for vicious dog, according to police. He was released pending a municipal court appearance.
