An 8 year old Pueblo girl is mauled by a vicious dog right across the street from her home.

The little girl was bitten a little more than a week ago and is now recovering from surgery.

Her name is Abreann Trujillo.

Abreann said she was across the street playing at the park when she was attacked.

She says there was a dog tied up nearby and went up to the dog to pet it.

That's when the dog lashed out on her.

"My whole family had thought that he had bit my lip off", said Abreann.

Abreann said the dog looked harmless.

"I was in shock. I didn't even know what happened", said Abreann.

According to Pueblo County Animal Services, more than 450 dog bites were reported last year, most of the victims consisting of children.

Abreann's grandmother, Linda Trujillo says she has a message for all children and parents.

"No matter how cute or pretty the dog is, that dog can attack", said Trujillo.

The owners of the dog have authorized that he be put down and the family may face charges.

As for Abreann, the incident has not made her afraid of dogs.

"She's a strong girl", said Trujillo.

Abreann will need to go through one more reconstructive surgery.
